North London Colourstrings

North London Colourstrings was founded by Deborah Harris in Muswell Hill in January 1995, with 12 pupils in music kindergarten.   By July 1995, the school had grown to 50 students.

North London Colourstrings has continued to flourish and now has roughly 700 students (320 in the Junior and Senior instrumental departments and 380 in music kindergarten) with 32 teachers.

The instrumental tuition programme offers: violin, ‘cello, piano, guitar, flute and mini-bass.  Musicianship classes are a compulsory element.  There are five string orchestras at different levels, two cello ensembles, two guitar ensembles and a children’s choir.  Regular workshops are held for instrumental students, including piano days, chamber music days and tours abroad for older ensembles.  We hold regular concerts - over 70 short concerts per annum plus five formal Showcase Concerts.

We believe that music is for sharing: there can be no better demonstration of this than bringing the fruits of group endeavour to the wider public for general enjoyment.
