Michiko was born in Japan and started playing the violin at the age of four. In 1994, she came to Swansea in South Wales, originally to study English for a year but met a great violin teacher in London and decided to stay in the UK.
After completing school, Michiko studied violin at the Royal Academy of Music with Sophie Langdon and Diana Cummings. At the end of her studies there, Michiko was awarded a ‘Music in the Community Award’ for the workshops she gave in schools across London.
Since graduating from the RAM, Michiko has enjoyed a dual career as teacher and performer. She has played with many orchestras and chamber groups at such venues as St. John’s Smith Square, Cadogan Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall. She also regularly gives solo recitals. As a teacher, she has taught many pupils who have achieved high results in examinations and won numerous prizes in music festivals. More recently, Michiko developed a special interest in Colourstrings and became a violin teacher at the North London Colourstrings Centre.
Apart from playing the violin, Michiko enjoys cooking, reading (especially Japanese books so that she won’t forget her native language!) and chatting to friends and family all over the world.
