Laura Forbes

Laura studied the cello at Trinity College of Music, London, gaining the Barbirolli prizes for String Playing and Quartet Playing.  She then worked freelance and performed widely in various orchestras and chamber ensembles, with which she toured the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Spain.

Playing the cello has been a lifelong passion, but in 2002, the discovery of the Colourstrings Method revolutionised her life.  Although an experienced teacher, teaching very young children was a completely new challenge, and from a tentative start with an afternoon as Kindergarten assistant and four five-year-old cello pupils, she is now head of the cello department, one of the Principal’s Deputies, and coaches 4 ensembles. Through necessity, she has also developed previously dormant skills in concert management, computer graphics and desktop publishing!

Laura lives with her husband and their two cats, Minou and Maxou. She is a confirmed Francophile and is always dreaming of her next visit to France, to enjoy the language, cuisine, culture and sunshine.
