Joao Carneiro

Joao Carneiro was born in Portugal in 1981 and started playing the violin at the age of 12.  He finished his studies at the Professional and Artistic School of Vale do Ave (Artave-Portugal) with distinction, where he was studying with Alejandro Morales and Anna Kratochvilova.   He has played with major Portuguese and international youth orchestras, which have taken him to the principal concert halls in Europe, under the baton of Sir Charles Mackerras, Dominique Sourisse, Peter Stark, Ernest Schelle, Diego Mason, Jan Lathan Koenig, amongst others.

On moving to London in 2000, Joao had the opportunity to study with Diana Cummings and completed a postgraduate diploma in performance at Trinity College of Music.

Joao is a very versatile musician: he has played with many chamber music groups and is a member of the Neiro Piano Trio, which performs in Europe and Japan, where his concerts were recorded by the Japanese national radio and TV.  He has appeared frequently as a soloist in Portugal, England, Holland, Italy and Japan with internationally renowned pianists Marian Pivka and Sumie Saito.  He has worked with many distinguished violinists and chamber groups - Georgy Pauk, Vladimir Ovcharek, Boris Kuniev and Alexei Michiline, Michael Dussek, the English String Quartet, the Arman Piano trio and the Velinger and the Wihan String Quartets.   Joao is leader of several chamber and symphony orchestras in London.

Joao has enjoyed teaching for a number of years, most notably at the North London Colourstrings Centre and at the Latymer Saturday Music School.  In his limited spare time, he enjoys swimming, painting, cooking and travelling.
