Jelena Lakovic was born in Podgorica, Montenegro, in 1979. She graduated from the Academy of Music there, having studied in the piano department with Vladimir Bockariov. Jelena was a piano teacher and accompanist at the music high school in Podgorica and piano accompanist in the Andre Navara School for the Musically Talented.
Since coming to London, she has been involved with ISSTIP (the International Society for the Study of Tension in Performance) and has studied with Professor Carola Grindea on how to help young musicians prevent physical injury and psychological problems during performance. She gained her Masters Degree in Piano in 2010.
Jelena has participated in numerous competitions, winning a number of awards including First Prize in the Young Pianists of Montenegro Competition. She has performed in the Oxford Philomusica International Piano Festival and as a soloist, chamber musician and piano accompanist in Montenegro, Serbia and the UK.
Jelena has taught piano at the North London Colourstrings Centre since 2006. She finds that the Colourstrings method gives children a natural approach to music and instrumental playing from the very beginning and is constantly amazed to see children in this school being so enthusiastic and happy to perform.
Jelena also enjoys reading, going to the theatre, tennis and classical dance.
