Anna Salmi
Anna Salmi was born in Hyvinkää, Finland. She studied violin with John Crawford and Gillian Findlay at Trinity College of Music, London, and at the Royal Academy of Music, where she completed her Masters’ Degree in Violin Performance, with Professor Erich Gruenberg, OBE, and viola with Yuko Inoue.
Anna has been involved in hundreds of concerts, recordings and other projects. She
enjoys a busy freelance career combining performing with teaching, composing and
managing her own company. She enjoys session work (from classical music to jazz
and rock) and has recorded music for films and TV at leading studios. Anna’s soloistic
highlights include playing as a kantele soloist for the London Philharmonic at the
Royal Festival Hall and partnering the co-
In addition to being a founding member of the Lumi String Quartet and Trio Animé, Anna is also a member of The Peter Lucas Band, which has recently released its first recording. Other projects include composing music for the modern dance company, Beyond Repair Dance, and performing live with them in their shows in Covent Garden.
Anna has an LTCL in Violin Teaching and qualified as a Colourstrings teacher in 2002.
As well as teaching violin at the NLCC since 2003, she is Violin/Viola Specialist
at The American School, London, where she also directs and coaches the school’s Chamber
Music Ensembles. She has travelled widely coaching International Youth Orchestras
in such places as Singapore and Beijing and has twice been invited to adjudicate
and give performance master-
